This is the story of a pilgrimage across northern Spain, walking the 800km Camino Frances from St Jean to Santiago de Compostela in November 2013, and then on to Finisterre at 'the end of the world'.

October 1977. In the days of the Hippie Trail, when Afghanistan was still open to overlanders on their way to Kathmandu and beyond, the first stop for most travellers from the west was the ancient city of Herat. From there, a popular route was via Kandahar and Kabul to the Khyber Pass and on into Pakistan. For those who stayed longer in Afghanistan, a trip to see the famous Buddhas of Bamiyan and the lakes of Band-e Amir was not to be missed.
